For the discourse project, our group decided to look into gun control. Issues that arise from gun control are: buy back programs, background checks, the necessities for guns, what will happen if they take away assault rifles – are shotguns next? Etc. We saw views from both sides of the spectrum and also one from the middle. Both sides down played the other’s ideas by making comments that may make the other side seem uneducated, or stupid for that matter, while the article in the middle-used facts and numbers.
For my parody, I chose to create a commercial that gives the viewer the idea that the democrats wanting gun control are tree huggers/extreme leftists, and not very smart. I used irony and metaphor for my commercial and the viewing audience is Republicans.

Use this spray at your schools, public gatherings, concerts, anything. All you have to do is keep a can with you and whenever you see a Gun Lover, just pull the cap and spray. Instantly, the Gun Lovers run away leaving a safe and happy community. Just look at these customer reviews:

If you hate Gun Lovers, then you need this product. Because the more people we spray, the less guns that will be on the streets, thus making a safer America. When you purchase a can, two dollars will be donated to the Bernie Sanders campaign because we know you will vote for him because who doesn’t want free stuff?***
The intentions of this ad were to show that democratic ideas on gun control are unintelligent. I thought I did an okay job portraying that through my commercial. I think trying to make it funny and using stereotypes helps others relate to my ideas and where I am coming from. For the record, I think there needs to be gun control. I don’t think gun control ideas are unintelligent, the viewpoint I used in the commercial is just the viewpoint I decided to go with for my blog post.
